About

My name is Sarah Carper and I'm 34 years old.  I'm from Colonial Heights, VA, where I graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 2007.  During my high school years, I was active in the Marching and Symphonic Bands and was a member of the French Club, BETA Club and National Honor Society.  Outside of school, I was very active with my church and youth group.

Following high school, I attended Longwood University, where I graduated in December 2010 with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.  I was an active member of The Wesley Foundation and a member of the Student Virginia Education Association.  In the Winter Intercession (2009-2010) of my Junior Year, I had the opportunity to study abroad and complete my Practicum II in Volos, Greece.  This experience changed my life tremendously and was major driver in my dream to teach abroad.

I was an elementary school teacher in Virginia for ten years.  My first year began as a long term substitute teacher in Dinwiddie County.  I was hired full time half way through the year.  Following that year, I taught 3 years in Brunswick County (4th and 5th grades).  While teaching in Brunswick County, I spent part of this time as the Fourth Grade Team Leader.  I returned to Dinwiddie County, to the school I completed my student teaching and my first year of teaching, and taught third grade for six years.

In January 2014, I enrolled in the Graduate School at Virginia Tech (online).  In December 2016, I graduated with my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Instructional Technology.

In 2021, I was hired for a dream job teaching abroad in Beijing, China.  I taught online in the fall of 2021 and eventually moved to China in January 2022.  For seven months, I lived and taught in Beijing, China teaching first grade English.  When I moved back to the United States at the end of July, I continued to teach online for my school until January 2023.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, photography, traveling the world and finding new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom.
